12 Days of Wellness
Daily Endorphins- It’s too easy to skip a workout during the holiday season. We have MORE calories to burn, MORE stress to manage and LESS time to do either. Gift yourself with endorphins daily. You are SO worth it!
Fun Parties- Focus on the Fun – Not the Food! Go to Gather this holiday season. Making new friends is almost as good as a first kiss – And new friends can lead to new adventures and a renewed spirit. Commit to add to your holiday card list for next year at this year’s gatherings.
Water Breaks- Alternate sparkling water with the bubbly this season to keep from taking in extra calories or breaking out the new dance moves. Bonus…you stay hydrated and have fun!
An Ounce of Prevention: Learn to recognize your holiday triggers. Everyone has them. Whether yours are financial pressures or personal demands, with a little planning and some positive thinking, you can find peace and joy during the holidays and keep your heart and your spirit healthy!
R & R – You’re not being a Grinch if you need to skip a party to get some rest. People who sleep 8+ hours are less likely to catch a cold than those who snooze 7 hours or less each night .
Wipe away the germs– Especially when you are traveling. Stash wet wipes in your bag and wipe down your personal space on planes, trains and automobiles. Germs spread HAND-TO-MOUTH. Wash your hands more than usual, especially after shopping and using escalators and grocery carts and elevators…OH MY! This season, try humming “Jingle Bells” while you suds it up!
Eat Regular Meals- Don’t skip lunch so you can eat more at the office holiday party. Low blood sugar from hunger increases cortisol levels, which leads to cravings for fatty, salty, and sugary foods. Keep to your normal meal times to keep your blood sugar levels consistent, then maybe your hot new party pants will fit nicely for the next party too!
Smart Snacks- There are 8-10 different kinds of apples at your grocery store this time of year. Try a different one each day and find your favorite! Be the one to take a healthy dish to the party – trust me, everyone will appreciate your wise choice.
Skinny Jeans- When they start to shrink, it’s time for you to move more, eat less and drink better. It’s takes a 3-mile run to burn off the calories in 1 doughnut. Think about that before you down that piece of fudge or divinity!
People You Love- Depression and suicide rates rise dramatically over the holidays. Take a minute to consider your circle of friends, family and work peers who may need a special gesture, hug or invitation to just one holiday gathering to make them feel special and loved.
Tasty Bites- When you are going to a holiday party don’t feel like you have to deprive yourself of the delicious treats. Go ahead…take a bite or two then “Waste it – Don’t Waist it!”
Share The Spirit! Joy is expansive. It’s been proven time and time again that the quickest way to find happiness is to help someone else find theirs, intentionally spreading holiday cheer is the best way to find it ourselves.
Happy Healthy Holidays from Onsite Total Wellness!
